What is Alignment?

On the LOMA platform, your alignment score shows how closely your views align with those of a politician based on their voting record. It's a simple way to measure where you stand in comparison to your elected representatives. Here's how it works:

  • Every time you vote on a bill, your vote is compared with that of all politicians
  • If you vote the same way on a bill (either “for” or “against”) as a politician, you have 100% alignment for that bill
  • If you disagree on a bill, your alignment score will be adjusted according to the percentage of agreement.

For example, if you vote on 5 bills and agree with a politician on 3 of them, your alignment score will be 60%. The more bills you vote on, the more accurate your alignment score will be across the platform.

Your alignment score will be updated every time you vote - and each time politicians vote in parliament - giving you real-time insights into how closely your views align with those of all politicians and how well you are being represented. This helps you track and understand where you stand and ensures actions are informed by the most up-to-date data.

What is Voting?

On the LOMA platform, voting is a way to understand how your views align with those of your elected representatives. When a bill is introduced, it is summarised by AI and presented impartially, allowing you to vote "for" or "against" the bill. When combined with others, your vote lets your representatives know how your community feels about issues and what action your community wants.

If politicians vote on the bill (on LOMA or in parliament), their vote is compared to your vote. While yours is not an official vote, it is a virtual vote that helps you track your alignment with politicians and better understand the issues that matter to you. For individual users, your vote shows how aligned you are with the voting record of the politicians you follow. The more bills you vote on, the more accurate your alignment score will be, reflecting your political alignment over time.

For groups, the group vote shows how aligned the collective views are to the politicians they follow or lobby. Voting is a powerful tool for understanding and influencing political decisions while also helping you compare your stance with others on key issues.

What is Impact?

Just by signing up to LOMA you are showing you care about democracy and are having an impact.

By following a Bill, you show that you care about that issue and how your representatives vote on it.

When you vote on a Bill, it shows your representative how you want them to vote.

Inviting friends and family to participate amplifies your impact. Over time, you will learn how to increase your democratic impact in many ways.

When enough of us are participating we can support our representatives to take the actions we need.

What is Vote Power and Vote With?

Most users do not have the time or expertise to be up to date with the nuances of a bill or motion in parliament. To help make sure your vote is being used correctly on bills you care about, you may elect to "vote with" a user or group you trust.

A user or group's vote power increases each time another user or group trusts them enough to "vote with" them.

When you vote with a group (or user), you are essentially "proxy-ing" your vote to that group. When that group votes on a bill, they also vote with your vote. It is then shown on your following page and reflected in your alignment scores. You can always change (or cancel) the vote if you disagree.

You can choose to "vote with" multiple groups or users, but the first group (or user) you join takes precedence, so it's worth considering whose values and reasoning align most closely with your own views.
